Laura Burke is a Registered Certified Counselor who is passionate about creating happiness and resiliency in people of all ages. She has worked with children, adolescents, adults and families for more than 7 years, and has served populations with acute mental illness, trauma history, developmental disabilities, and complex family issues.
Laura uses empirically validated treatment protocols and Trauma Informed Practices in all interactions with clients. Her diverse experiences inform her eclectic orientation, which includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EMT).
Laura engages every client at their current level of functioning. Treatment is modified for individual history, development, and level of engagement. Play Therapy and art are utilized in the treatment of children in order to join with the child in their own world and in their own language.
Laura received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from West Virginia University, with a focus on child development and behavior modification. She received her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Union Institute and University, with a focus on stress and adolescent development.
Laura is passionate about assisting clients to create the lives that will truly satisfy them. She feels gratitude every day for the courage and commitment of the people with whom she works.
